Identity photos fail for boring reasons: chin cut off, too much ceiling, a selfie angle, busy background, or a file that is the wrong millimetres after a good-looking crop. Many passports follow an ICAO-ish 35×45 mm print with the face occupying a defined percentage of the height. The United States often wants a 2×2 inch square with eyes in a listed range from the bottom. Schengen visas, UK photos, Indian e-visas, and national ID cards each publish their own pixel lists, background colors, and recency rules.
