When to change pixels versus when to encode
A pixel box is a contract with the destination
App Store screenshots, IAB ads, Story safe zones, and government forms publish integers. “About 1200 wide” is how faces get clipped. This hub plus the by-pixels spoke are for typing those integers. Social, website, and print spokes translate the usual contracts into plain language.
Canvas stays on the device
HTML5 Canvas draws the new bitmap in this tab. Instant means no Convertify4u upload. That is why NDA stills, HR headshots, and unpublished packaging can use a browser tool. Close the tab; the working copy is gone. Your downloads folder is the archive.
Format notes without a synonym dump
JPEG photographs, PNG graphics (keep PNG if you need holes), WebP from modern sites, GIF stills (animation is not a video editor). iPhone HEIC often needs a convert to JPEG or PNG before Canvas in some browsers — see the JPG spoke. After a correct box, encode if a portal still nags about kilobytes.
Which spoke to open next
Exact integers: by-pixels. Downsampling without mush: quality spoke. Many files: bulk (sequential, honest). Instagram/TikTok/YouTube boxes: social. LCP and Shopify: website. 100KB forms: reduce size. Paper and IDs: print. JPEG-specific: jpg spoke. Alpha logos: png spoke. No-account pitch: free spoke. Phone habits: mobile spoke.
How it works
- 1
Drop a still Canvas can decode
JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF. Read the natural width and height first so you know whether you are shrinking or (riskily) enlarging.
- 2
Type the target, lock aspect unless you mean to stretch
Circles should stay round. Unlock only for a forced slot (and expect distortion). Cap is 10,000 px per side.
- 3
Preview at a meaningful zoom, then download
A tiny thumbnail lies. Check faces and type. No watermark. Encode afterward only if bytes remain the blocker.
Use cases
Social stills before the app crops
Export the ratio the grid actually shows. Then post. Details on the social spoke.
Email and portal stills
Smaller long edge drops kilobytes faster than a quality slider alone. See reduce-size.
Layout QA and fixtures
Developers who need 628×1200, not “half.” By-pixels spoke.
Personal archives
Frame-sized stills for a digital frame without shipping a 40 MP original.
Problems we solve
Cloud resizers that keep a copy
If the pitch is a free credit after email, the still already left your machine. Canvas here does not.
Opening Photoshop for an 800×600 thumb
A tab is faster. Photoshop remains the right tool for a campaign retouch.
Account walls
Everyday Instant jobs do not start with a newsletter. See the free spoke if that was the search.
