Canonical Excel to PDF Converter

Excel to PDF Online — Tables, Charts, and Layout

A PDF snapshot of a workbook is what you send when formulas should not be editable. We render through LibreOffice/Gotenberg on a dedicated Hetzner VPS, with a landscape/portrait toggle so wide grids are not sliced in half. Standard single workbooks are free; huge multi-sheet batches and 100 MB+ files are Pro via Lemon Squeezy.

Spreadsheet to PDF without a desktop Excel install

Browser-only “converters” often screenshot a sheet or send the file to a reseller API. This hub uses Gotenberg wrapping LibreOffice on infrastructure we control. That is why charts, borders, and print areas behave more like Excel’s own Save as PDF — and why print area mistakes in the workbook still show up in the output. Set page breaks in Excel first if pagination must match a board pack.

Orientation is the wide-table fix

Portrait is the default mental model and the reason columns vanish. Switch to landscape for 15-column models, payroll registers, and inventory lists. LibreOffice still respects row heights and cell fills; it cannot invent a page that is infinitely wide. If a sheet is still wrapping, shrink print area or hide unused columns in the original.

What we process, and what we do not

XLSX, XLS, and CSV. Macros do not run. This is not OCR — there is no camera-roll path. Encrypted workbooks need to be openable before upload. We do not keep the spreadsheet after conversion. Privacy here is HTTPS plus immediate deletion, not Instant on-device encoding (that model is for PDF page tools like Organize).

Free vs Pro

One ordinary workbook, no account. Folder queues and 100 MB+ models use Premium workers so a phone tab is not parsing a financial model in memory. After export, Compress PDF if mail still rejects the attachment, or Merge if you combined several PDFs by hand.

How it works

  1. 1

    Drop the workbook

.xlsx, .xls, or .csv. The file goes to our VPS — not CloudConvert or a random SaaS API.

  2. 2

    Choose landscape or portrait

Landscape for wide tables. LibreOffice keeps cell formatting, charts, and borders in the print-style layout.

  3. 3

    Download the PDF

Source is deleted after conversion. Everyday singles are free; batch and oversized files need Premium.

Use cases

Send a non-editable report

Clients should see numbers, not formulas. A PDF is the usual lock-down.

Compliance snapshot

Archive how the sheet looked on filing day, with typography from LibreOffice rather than a screenshot.

People who cannot open Excel

One attachment that Preview, Chrome, and phones all open.

Legacy .xls and modern .xlsx

One pipeline for both, plus CSV dumps from old systems.

Problems we solve

Columns chopped at the margin

Cheap tools ignore orientation. Landscape plus a sensible print area is the fix.

Workbook sent to a reseller API

Financial models should not ride someone else’s conversion marketplace. Private Hetzner VPS, then delete.

Need desktop Excel for Save as PDF

This path is for when you are on a machine without Office, or you want the same result from a browser.

Specialized Excel to PDF guides

Trust & privacy

Private Gotenberg/LibreOffice

Dedicated VPS — not a shared CloudConvert pool.

Deleted after convert

Spreadsheets are removed from the server when the PDF is ready.

Free standard jobs
