How to use these guides

Each note on this index is a finished chore, not a tour of every button. Open the one that names your file. If you have an iPhone still that a Windows form will not accept, the HEIC guide is the one, and the encode you should expect is a JPEG at quality 0.92. If you have a PDF whose words you can highlight, the Word guide is the one. If the words will not highlight, you are holding a picture of a page, and the free digital converter will not read it for you.

Free server conversions allow 8 a day and 12 MB each. Pro raises the file cap to 100 MB. The plan amount sits on the pricing page, so these articles do not quote a dollar figure that might be stale next week. Local work is a different budget. The image compressor starts at 80 and stays in the browser. Merge and split can stay on the device when the page says Instant. HEIC, Office, compress-on-the-server, and a PDF password do upload. Those uploads are deleted after processing, typically within one hour and no later than 24 hours.

Pictures, in the order that wastes the least time

Decode HEIC before you crop or compress. Crop image then offers freeform, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9, and Facebook 1.91:1. It does not offer a circle or a millimetre passport frame. PNG is the right container when a hole or a hard edge has to survive. JPG is the right container when a photo was trapped in a huge PNG and a site wants it lighter. Neither conversion cuts the subject out. The background remover does, one file up to 25 MB, and the usual download is a transparent PNG. A JPG export of a still-clear backdrop fills white at quality 0.92.

Enlarge only a sharp original that is a little small. A GIF for chat is a different artifact: 30 frames, a 1200 pixel long edge, white mat, no sound. The studio workspace and the GIF hub describe that same encoder. The tools address canonicalizes to the hub. If the story needs audio, do not force it into a GIF.

PDFs, in the order a form actually asks

Edit text in Word, then send PDF if the recipient wanted a freeze. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint renders happen on a worker, so set paper and fonts first. Assemble pages with merge. Pull an exhibit with split. Shrink an attachment with Light, then Balanced, then Maximum, and stop when the paragraph is still readable at 100 percent. There is no typed kilobyte box, and the compress tool handles up to 200 pages. Lock a finished PDF with a passphrase of 4 to 128 characters. The protect path uses AES-256. Unlock only when you already know that phrase.

A scanner photo of a receipt is not yet a searchable contract. Magic Color lifts contrast. The download can be a PNG or a one-page A4 PDF with a JPEG at quality 0.92. Searchable text is OCR, later, on a plan that says so. Reshoot a curled thermal slip before you blame the filter.

Questions before you pick a guide

Are these guides the same text as the tool pages?
No. A tool page is the control you use. A guide is the decision in front of that control: which preset, which format, and when to stop. Both should match the same limits.
Do I need an account to follow a guide?
Most everyday steps do not. Free server conversions allow 8 a day and 12 MB. Pro raises the file cap to 100 MB. OCR on a scan is the signed-in case. The pricing page has the current amount.
Which guide should I open for a phone photo?
HEIC to JPG if the file is still HEIC. The encode is quality 0.92. Crop if the frame is wrong. Compress if the site is still over its cap. The slider starts at 80.
Which guide should I open for a PDF?
Word, if the text highlights and you need to edit. Merge or split, if the pages are already right and only the packet is wrong. Compress, if a form published a size. Light is the first preset.
How long do the files in these walkthroughs stay uploaded?
When a step uploads, the files are deleted after processing, typically within one hour and no later than 24 hours. Instant-labeled steps can stay in the browser. Download the result either way.
