Can this scanner read both QR codes and barcodes?

Yes. It uses a multi-format browser decoder that covers QR codes plus common 1D formats such as EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, and Code 39. Unusual industrial symbologies may not decode — try a sharper image or a dedicated device for those.

Will it automatically open the website in the QR code?

It will navigate when you press Open link (or when you enable auto-open after a successful URL decode). We show the decoded URL and host first so you can spot suspicious domains. That confirmation step is deliberate anti-phishing behavior.

Does Convertify4u upload my camera feed or photos?

Decoding runs locally in the browser for this tool. Your camera stream and image files are used in the page session to find the code; we do not require a cloud convert upload for scanning. Camera permission is controlled by your browser.

Why won’t my barcode scan from a photo?

Usually blur, skew, crop, or JPEG compression on thin bars. Retake under even light with the bars filling the frame, or upload a PNG screenshot. Damaged or partially covered labels may be unreadable by any software scanner.

Is the QR and barcode scanner free?

Yes for normal on-device scanning on this page. It does not consume the daily cloud conversion quota used by server-side file converters. Camera access still requires your permission in the browser.

What happens if the code is not a URL?

We show the raw text (for example an EAN number or Wi-Fi string) and let you copy it. Only http and https payloads get the Open link button. Other schemes are not executed as navigation.

Can I use it on iPhone and Android?

Yes in current Safari and Chrome, provided you allow camera access when using live scan. Image upload works even when you prefer not to grant the camera. Desktop webcams are supported the same way.

Is this different from the Document Scanner tool?

Document Scanner is for photographing pages into a PDF. This page only decodes QR and barcode payloads and helps you open or copy the result. Use each tool for its job.

QR codes and barcodes are shortcuts: a restaurant menu URL, a Wi-Fi setup string, a shipping tracking page, an EAN/UPC on a product label, or a boarding-pass payload. Most people reach for a phone camera app — until that app wants a subscription, the code is in a screenshot, or a work laptop has no “scan” button. Convertify4u’s QR and barcode scanner is a single browser tool for both jobs: live camera scanning and decode-from-image for screenshots, PDFs exported as PNG, and label photos. When the payload is an http(s) link, we surface the destination clearly and give you an Open link action so you can navigate to the page the code points to. We do not silently redirect on first detect — phishing QR stickers are real, and showing the host before you leave is part of a professional scanner. Non-URL barcodes (EAN-13, UPC, Code 128, and similar) show the raw value so you can copy it into inventory software, a search box, or a spreadsheet. Decoding runs in your browser with the ZXing engine. Camera frames and uploaded images are processed locally for the session; Convertify4u does not require you to upload the picture to our cloud storage just to read a code. How browser QR and barcode scanning actually works

QR codes versus 1D barcodes

QR codes are 2D matrices that often carry URLs, vCards, or short text. Classic barcodes (EAN-13, UPC-A, Code 128, Code 39, and related formats) usually encode product or logistics identifiers as digits or alphanumeric strings. This tool uses a multi-format reader so one page covers both without switching apps. If a specialty industrial symbology fails, try a clearer crop or a dedicated warehouse scanner — consumer labels are the intended sweet spot.

Camera scan and image upload

Live camera mode asks for permission, then continuously looks for a readable code in the video feed. Image mode is for screenshots, email attachments, and photos of packaging. Upload JPG, PNG, or WebP; keep the code large in the frame and avoid heavy JPEG smear on thin barcode lines. Either path ends in the same result card: format, raw text, and Open link when the text is a safe http(s) URL.

Opening links without blind redirects

A scanned URL can be a menu, a payment page, or a lookalike domain. Convertify4u shows the decoded text and hostname, then opens only when you choose Open link (or enable auto-open after you understand the destination). We only treat http and https as navigable links — javascript: and data: payloads are never executed as navigation. That is intentional security UX, not a missing feature.

Privacy and device limits

Frames stay in the tab for decoding. Grant camera access only on sites you trust (this page uses HTTPS). Desktop webcams and phone rear cameras both work; older devices may need more light. If the browser blocks the camera, check site permissions and that no other app is holding the device. Instant-style local decode means this tool does not burn your daily cloud conversion quota.

You only needed to open a URL. Decline the yearly plan and ad-filled camera clones. A browser tool with an explicit Open link button is enough for everyday QR jobs.

Blurry photos and reflective packaging

Thin barcode bars smear under phone JPEG and foil glare. Retake with more light, less angle, and the code filling most of the frame — or crop tighter before upload.

Malicious QR stickers pasted over real ones

Always read the shown hostname before opening. If the sticker domain does not match the brand on the poster, do not navigate. Our confirm step exists for that reason.
