A code on a table, a shipping label, or a screenshot is a shortcut you should be able to read without installing another camera app. Point this page at it, or drop the picture you already have, and the text comes back in the same tab.
The reader is ZXing, running locally. The formats it is set up to try are AZTEC, CODABAR, CODE 39, CODE 93, CODE 128, DATA MATRIX, EAN 8, EAN 13, ITF, PDF 417, QR CODE, UPC A, and UPC E. That list covers the square codes on posters and the retail and shipping bars people meet every day. It is not a promise that every industrial symbol will decode. A warehouse format outside this list can stay blank, and the honest next step is a clearer photo or a scanner built for that symbol.
When the text is an http or https address, you can open it. A value that starts with www. is treated as https. Anything else stays text you can copy: a product number, a tracking string, a short note. The picture of a label does not have to be uploaded to our storage for the decode. An image you add should be under 20 MB, as JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF.

What this scanner will and will not open
The formats in the reader
QR CODE is the square most phones already understand. AZTEC, DATA MATRIX, and PDF 417 are the other two-dimensional marks in the hint list. The linear set is CODABAR, CODE 39, CODE 93, CODE 128, ITF, EAN 8, EAN 13, UPC A, and UPC E. If your label is one of those, a steady photo is usually enough. If it is a specialty mark this list does not name, do not expect a result. This page will not invent a reading for a symbol it is not asking ZXing to try.
Camera, or a picture you already saved
Live scan asks the browser for the camera and looks at the video until a code resolves. Image mode is for a screenshot, a PDF page you exported as PNG, or a photo of a box. Keep the mark large, level, and out of glare. Thin bars smear when the JPEG is heavy or the camera is too close. An upload over 20 MB is refused. Either path ends in the same card: the format name and the text.
Only http and https become links
classifyScanText treats a full http or https URL as openable, and it adds https in front of a www. address. Other schemes stay plain text. A product code, a Wi-Fi string, or a random note can be copied. They are not navigated. Look at the host before you open a link. A sticker on a poster can point somewhere the brand did not print, and the pause before you leave is the point of showing the address.
The decode stays in the tab
Frames and the picture you drop are handled in the browser session. You do not hand the label to our storage just to learn what it says. Camera permission is the browser’s own prompt. Stop the camera when you are finished so the device is free. If the preview never starts, allow the camera for this site, or switch to an image under 20 MB.

Start the camera or add a picture
Use live video for a code in front of you. Use a file when the code is already a screenshot or a photo. JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF are the image types, under 20 MB.

Hold the mark steady
Fill the frame, avoid glare, and keep linear bars horizontal. The reader is trying the formats listed above. A symbol outside that list can fail even when the photo is sharp.

Open an http link or copy the text
If the payload is http or https, including a www. address treated as https, review the host and open it when you mean to. Otherwise copy the value into the sheet or the search box that needs it.
Use cases
A menu or an event poster
Read the QR CODE, check the host, and open the https page. You do not need the venue’s own app for a single link.
A shipping label
CODE 128 and its neighbors often carry a tracking string. Copy that string into the carrier site when the printed URL is too small to trust.
A retail package
EAN 13, EAN 8, UPC A, and UPC E return the digits. This page does not look the number up in a product catalog. You paste it where the catalog lives.
A code that arrived as a screenshot
Drop the image. The same reader runs, without printing the screenshot just so a phone camera can see it.
Problems we solve
A symbol outside the list
Industrial marks that are not AZTEC, DATA MATRIX, PDF 417, QR CODE, or the linear formats named here may not decode. A dedicated device is the right tool for those.
Glare, blur, or a tight crop
Foil and motion break thin bars. Retake with even light, or upload a PNG screenshot instead of a smeared JPEG. Stay under 20 MB.
A link you did not expect
Read the host before you open it. Only http and https are treated as links. A lookalike domain is still your decision to visit.

ZXing runs in the tab. The camera and the picture are used for the decode, not stored as a conversion upload.
A closed list of formats
QR CODE, AZTEC, DATA MATRIX, PDF 417, and the named 1D formats. Other industrial symbols are outside that set.
Links with a scheme check
Open is for http and https. A www. prefix is read as https. Everything else is text you copy.
