Image Enlargement Guide

Enlarge JPG — Plus PNG, WebP & Convert-First Formats

Most camera files are already JPEG. PNG and WebP scale the same way. Specialty containers need a decode step before Canvas can see pixels.

Native rasters vs convert-first containers

Browsers decode JPEG, PNG, and WebP into a bitmap Canvas can scale with progressive 2× steps. That covers almost every photo download and most web assets. iPhone still defaults to HEIC; many scanners still emit TIFF; designers still pass AVIF; old Windows clips are BMP; memes arrive as GIF. We do not pretend those containers upscale natively in every browser. Convert HEIC via the linked HEIC tools, rasterize a GIF first frame to PNG or JPG, and convert BMP/TIFF/AVIF to a friendly raster — then return. Animated GIF upscale of every frame is not this product; neither is 256-color palette work — those are GIF Maker jobs. After decode you have a normal photo or graphic. Cap remains 10,000 px per side. Prefer PNG when transparency must survive; JPEG is fine for camera photos. Optional sharpen after scale. If a “JPG” is actually a renamed HEIC, the picker will fail until you convert. Repeated JPEG save-after-save is worse than one careful scale: interpolate from the least-recompressed master, then encode JPEG once at high quality if you must stay in JPEG.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick native or convert first

JPEG, PNG, or WebP go straight in. HEIC, GIF, BMP, TIFF, and AVIF take a convert/rasterize detour.

  2. 2

    Run progressive Canvas scale

Same 2× path whether the pixels started life as a camera JPEG or a converted PNG from HEIC.

  3. 3

    Export, then compress or crop

Download. Compress for email caps; crop if the destination is a tighter frame.

Use cases

Camera JPEG boosts

Phone and DSLR JPEGs that miss a web or print floor by a little, not by a factor of ten.

UI screenshots and WebP heroes

PNG for chrome and type; WebP for modern site images that still need more width.

Apple camera rolls

HEIC → PNG or JPG, then scale. Do not claim the enlarger “opens HEIC everywhere.”

Legacy scanner dumps

TIFF and BMP after conversion. GIF first-frame stills for a single meme panel — not a looping animation.

Problems we solve

Picker rejects HEIC or TIFF

Convert first. That is the honest path, not a bug in Canvas.

Expecting animated GIF upscale

This tool scales still rasters. Use GIF Maker if you need a looping file with a limited palette.

Lost transparency

JPEG has no alpha. Stay on PNG (or convert JPEG to PNG only if you added a knockout elsewhere).

Image tool ecosystem

After you use the image enlarger, crop framing, compress exports, remove backgrounds, or convert HEIC before upscaling.

Trust, speed & privacy

Local decode and scale

Once the browser can read the raster, work stays on Canvas — no Convertify4u disk.

Honest format list

We list convert-first types instead of advertising “every container native.”

Cross-OS browsers

Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux. HEIC conversion is especially common on iPhone → desktop workflows.
