Background Remover Guide

Logo Background Remover — Brand Marks without the Box

A JPEG of a logo on a white slide is not a brand asset. Isolate ink and shapes so the mark floats on any tint.

Export design-ready transparent PNGs for brand kits. Logo and signature files never leave your device.

Logos are not portraits. You want a hard silhouette, not a soft hair matte. Anti-aliased type against white should stay crisp; a people-model will “feather” it into mush if you treat the mark like a selfie. This spoke is for wordmarks, icons, app glyphs, sticker die-lines, rubber stamps, and wet-ink signatures scanned from paper. Best path: export PNG or SVG from the original brand file. Isolation is a recovery tool for when you only have a photo of a booth panel or a slide export. Tiny 64px favicons should be redrawn, not upscaled after a mask. Signatures: scan at 600 DPI on white, isolate, then place on letterhead; paper tooth will leave speckles — threshold in an editor if you need legal-clean ink. Design-tool import: Figma and Canva want PNG with alpha (or SVG). Photoshop and Illustrator can take the same PNG as a smart object. We do not convert to true vectors. If you need paths, Image Trace in Illustrator after a high-contrast mask — expect cleanup. Never JPEG a logo that still needs holes.

Hard marks versus photographic isolation

White-box JPEGs from Google Images are the usual input. Isolation knocks the field, but JPEG ringing around letters can leave a pale halo — start from PNG if you have it. Icons with interior holes (an “O”, a power symbol) must keep those holes; if the model fills them, poke them in an editor. Stickers: leave a margin if you will print a contour cut. Favicons: 32×32 and 180×180 from a large master via Image Resizer, not from a screenshot of a header. Stamps and signatures are ink-on-paper: the model may keep paper gray as “ink.” Raise contrast before the drop, or threshold after. Brand-new unreleased marks should not go to a cloud farm — this path is local. After alpha, compress only if the kit is huge; crushing a logo PNG introduces dirty edges.

How it works

  1. 1

    Prefer a large, high-contrast raster

A photo of a business card is worse than an export from the brand PDF. Scan signatures at high DPI on white paper.

  2. 2

    Isolate shapes, then proof counters

Look at the interiors of letters and the gaps in an icon. Punch holes that the mask filled.

  3. 3

Export PNG into the design tool

Figma, Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop — PNG with alpha. Resize for favicon packs. Flatten never, unless a form forbids transparency.

Use cases

Pitch decks and sites

Marks on dark slides without a leftover white rectangle.

Icons, favicons, stickers

UI glyphs and print stickers that need holes and clean corners.

Ink signatures and stamps

Contracts and letterhead. Speckle-clean in an editor if the scan is dirty.

Directory profile art

When a chamber of commerce form only accepted a JPEG of the mark on a wall.

Problems we solve

White rectangles in every mockup

That is a JPEG without alpha. Isolate once, reuse the PNG.

Paper texture in signatures

Isolation is not a legal-threshold tool. Contrast the scan, then paint speckles.

Tracing by hand in four apps

A recovered PNG is faster than redrawing for a one-off deck. Redraw if this is now the source of truth.

Trust, speed & privacy

Local brand files

Unreleased identity work stays on the machine.

Hard-edge bias

Treat this as a mark/icon/signature tool, not a hair matte.

No stamp on the PNG

Client kits should not include our name in the corner.
