Layout fidelity is print layout, not “infinite canvas”

Excel on screen can scroll forever. PDF pages have edges. “Keep formatting” means fonts, fills, borders, and chart objects survive — not that every column of an unfiltered data dump will sit on one sheet of A4. Treat this like Excel’s own print preview, because that is what Gotenberg is approximating.

Landscape first, then print area

Switch orientation before you blame the converter. If the model is still too wide, in Excel: Page Layout → print area, or hide columns you would never print. Fit-to-page scaling in the workbook helps more than running the same file twice.

What LibreOffice keeps well

Cell borders, fills, number formats, and typical embedded charts. Conditional formatting usually survives. Very new Excel visuals or third-party drawing add-ins can differ — export a one-sheet sample if the board pack is sacred.

Privacy and size
