Photo sequences without timeline software

Order is the edit

Create GIF from images by dropping a chronological set, then dragging frames when the beat is wrong. Two-frame before/after pairs, comic panels, and a day’s travel stills are the same tool with different delay. Mixed aspect ratios will jump — crop or letterbox to one box before you encode. Live Photo packages are not a source; export stills first.

Slideshow pacing versus animation density

A readable slideshow often wants 400–800ms on text-heavy frames and less on establishing shots. Stop-motion stills want tighter delay. Gif Studio is not After Effects: you get about 30 frames and a ~1200px ceiling, plus reverse, boomerang, or pingpong if a hard cut feels abrupt. Infinite loops suit chats; counted loops suit decks that should rest on the last beat.

Which stills drop in natively

JPG, PNG, and WebP go straight on the timeline. iPhone HEIC, BMP archives, TIFF scans, AVIF stills, and DDS textures need a convert-first raster, then come back. Normalize a mixed folder to PNG or JPG if the picker is picky. Nothing uploads to a Convertify4u server on this encode.

    Gather stills in narrative order

    Name files 01, 02, 03 if you care about picker order — then verify on the timeline anyway, because filesystem sort is not guaranteed.

    Hold the frames that must be read

    Raise delay on titles and product labels. Keep motion frames snappier so the loop does not feel like a slog.

    Generate locally and check the seam

    Watch the last frame cut back to the first. Pingpong helps if that cut is ugly.

Vacation slideshows

A day’s highlights, not the entire roll. Ten to twenty frames with longer holds beat thirty near-duplicates.

Before and after pairs

Two to four frames of a renovation, retouch, or UI change. Match crop so the subject does not jump.

Comic and storyboard panels

Hold dialogue panels long enough to read. Large lettering survives the 256-color palette better than hairline type.

Convert stragglers to PNG or JPG first. HEIC in the middle of a JPEG folder is the usual surprise.
