Collage Templates — maps you fill, not themes you rent

Templates here are layout records: how many cells, how they split, whether a heart or circle clips the board. They are not seasonal sticker packs and they do not lock when you skip a subscription.

What “template” means in this codebase

Filtered by photo count

The strip under the canvas lists LayoutTemplate rows whose imageCount equals the number of files you added. One photo unlocks full-frame plus circle, heart, star, diamond, and hexagon masks. Two photos unlock splits and diagonals. Four photos unlock 2×2 and hero mixes. High counts get denser sheets. If the strip looks empty or “wrong,” you probably added a file and the previous map is no longer legal. That is a feature: cells stay aligned to pictures.

Grids versus clip-paths

Most maps are rectangular cells. A subset applies a CSS clip-path to the whole board or to a cell (hearts, stars, circles). Those reads as “aesthetic” on social, and they rasterize at capture — export PNG if the cut must stay clean. They are not scrapbook papers, film frames, or illustrated polaroids. If you need illustrated chrome, you add it in an illustration tool after, or you pick a different product. Spacing and radius still apply on top of the map.

Reuse is a habit, not a cloud library

There is no “save as team template” button. Consistency across a campaign means: same ratio, same cell count, same gap, same background hex. Write that down in the brief. Social-sized maps are the three ratios in the dropdown — a “Pinterest template” is just 4:5 plus a tall-friendly grid. Print-sized templates in millimetres do not exist; see the printable spoke. Starting from a map is faster than drawing guides in Photoshop for a 3×3. That is the entire pitch.

How it works

  1. 1

    Load the photos first

Count drives which maps appear. Do not hunt for a 9-cell look with only three files.

  2. 2

    Click through the strip

Thumbnails show the split. Mixed vs equal is the real decision.

  3. 3

    Customize chrome, not structure

Gap, radius, background. Structure is the template; chrome is the rest.

Use cases

Repeatable social tiles

Same 4-cell 1:1 every Thursday so the grid looks like a brand, not a mood swing.

Shape-cut avatars

Circle and hex masks for places that crop round anyway.

Teaching a junior the split

“Use the 1+2 hero map” is a clearer brief than “make it dynamic.”

Quick comps for a client

Three maps, three exports, one email. No template-market checkout.

Problems we solve

Blank-canvas freeze

Maps remove the need to invent a grid under a deadline.

Sticker-pack expectations

If you wanted illustrated Christmas frames, this catalog will disappoint on purpose.

Locked “premium layouts”

Every map that matches your count is available. We do not sell a second strip.

Trust & technology

What you see is the geometry

Thumbnails match the CSS. No surprise overlay at export.

Editable contents

Every cell is your photo. Nothing is a stock placeholder you cannot replace.

Ratio is separate

Templates do not secretly change 1:1 into 16:9. You pick the box; the map fills it.
