Boards versus pretty grids
Concept over equal cells
A recap collage says “these things happened.” A mood board says “aim here.” Mixed layouts help: one large hero (a room, a garment, a photograph’s lighting) and smaller supporting swatches. Overlap is a physical-pinboard habit this CSS grid cannot fully mimic — cells do not freely stack at arbitrary z-index. If you need true scrapbook overlap, you are in a different editor. What you get instead is a clean, sendable sheet that will not shed pins in transit.
Brand, interior, fashion, event
Brand boards collect color, type specimens (as photos of type, since we have no text tool), photography style, and competitor stills. Interior boards collect furniture, materials, and paint. Fashion boards collect silhouette and fabric. Wedding or party boards collect florals, tablescapes, and dress codes. In every case the job is alignment before production. Export PNG if the board includes UI screenshots or hard graphic edges; JPG if it is all photographs. Sixteen references is plenty — more than that and the board stops being a direction and starts being a stash.
Pinterest is a research tray; this is a deliverable
Pinterest boards are streams of links. Clients lose them, ads contaminate them, and nothing is locked. A PNG of the agreed set is a versioned artifact you can attach to a statement of work. Print a small frame if the team works on a wall (see printable math). Do not confuse this with a vision-board lifestyle app that gamifies affirmations — those products add stickers and journals. We add photos to a template.
