Design tools speak PNG. They do not all speak HEIC.
Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, and Figma expect familiar rasters. Raw .heic triggers missing previews or “could not complete your request,” especially on Windows without HEIF packs. This spoke is that bridge: get an editable PNG, then mask, type, and mock up. Local conversion keeps unreleased campaigns off a stranger’s disk until you choose to put them on the shared drive. PNG is a raster. It is not a layered PSD. You still do the design work in the app. For alpha plates, read the transparency spoke — camera photos are opaque. For maximum fidelity before heavy retouch, read the lossless spoke. After design, JPEG or PDF may be the client send; do not keep shipping HEIC and hoping.
