Websites want PNG with see-through edges. A photo from Camera is almost always opaque. We will not pretend a holiday snapshot becomes a sticker. If the source has alpha — or you only needed a lossless web graphic — this is the handoff.

Alpha is a channel, not a wish

HEIC/HEIF can carry transparency in some graphics and screen captures. iPhone photographs typically do not. Converting those stills to PNG gives you a lossless opaque image, which is still useful for CMS uploads that reject Apple files. It does not automatically knock out the background. For true cutouts, remove the background in an editor (or a dedicated remover tool), then save PNG. This spoke is the web and UI toolkit: product plates that already have alpha, icon-like HEIF exports, and “I need PNG for Webflow because .heic failed.” Local encode keeps unreleased UI shots off a random disk. Prefer the hub for generic conversion. Prefer JPEG if the asset is an opaque photo destined for a chat. Prefer WebP if the live site is modern and you are done editing. White boxes around logos usually mean you flattened to JPEG. Stay in PNG (or WebP with alpha) if edges must composite over brand colors.
