How do I size a still for a 4×6 print at 300 DPI?

4×300=1200 width, 6×300=1800 height (or swapped for orientation). If the source is smaller, the print will look soft. Crop to 2:3 first so you do not stretch.

2480×3508 at 300 DPI is the photo-sharp target. Many inkjet drivers also accept smaller files and interpolate — results vary. Check the printer documentation for recommended pixels.

Read the country PDF. US 2×2 inch at 300 DPI is 600×600. Isolation of a busy room is a different tool. We do not certify ICAO compliance.

Profile photo on paper versus LinkedIn?

Paper programs may want 300 DPI at 2 inches (600px). LinkedIn displays a circle from a square — 400–800px is enough on screen. Different jobs.

Landscape panorama on a wide print?

Lock aspect, set the long edge to the shop maximum that your source can support. PNG if banding in skies worries you; JPEG is fine for most photos.

Is 72 DPI enough for a poster?

Only if the poster is huge and viewed from far away, and you understand it will look soft up close. Photo books and passports: 300 DPI at the physical size.

A 1080×1080 Instagram square is 3.6 inches at 300 DPI — a small print. A 24 MP still can be a sharp 8×10. The math is width_px = inches × DPI (same for height). 8×10 inches at 300 DPI is 2400×3000. A4 (8.27×11.69 in) at 300 DPI is about 2480×3508. A 24×36 poster at 150 DPI (viewed from farther) is 3600×5400 — at 300 DPI you need a huge master. Passport and visa: countries publish mm and pixels. From pixels to paper without leaking portraits

DPI is not a slider you “set” on a 800px file

DPI metadata without enough pixels still prints soft. Labs care about pixel count at the physical size. 300 DPI for close-view photo paper. 150 DPI can work on a large poster seen from a few feet. 72 DPI is a screen myth if you are ordering paper.

IDs versus posters versus flyers

IDs: small physical size, strict pixels, plain field (composite after isolation). A4 flyers: 2480×3508 at 300 DPI if you want photo-sharp; many offices print “good enough” at 150 DPI. Posters: do the inches×DPI math; you may not have enough source pixels — say so before you pay for a 6-foot print.

Portrait versus landscape paper

Rotate in camera or crop. Stretching a landscape still into a portrait poster distorts. Profile pictures for paper programs still start as a square then a circle crop in the layout app.
