Airlines and HR portals still ask for a copy. Shoot the data page on a dark table, crop to the booklet, keep it in a locked folder. Do not post it. Do not use a cloud “ID scanner” you would not trust with the booklet itself.

The biodata page, maybe the visa pages you were asked for. Not the whole booklet “just in case” in an unlocked camera roll.
Not a studio for visa photos with millimetre rules. Not a government submission portal. Not identity verification for a bank — they will tell you their vendor.
Passports are shiny. No flash. Side light. If the photo of your face is a white blob, the copy is useless.
A black notebook under the open booklet beats a patterned tablecloth that confuses crop.
Fill the frame with the data page. Watch the hologram glare; move the lamp, not your feet, until the photo is visible.
Download, then move out of Downloads. Delete the original camera burst if it also contains the page.
A copy in Files while the booklet is in a hotel safe — still a risk, still sometimes requested.
They asked for a PDF of the data page. Give them a cropped page, not a selfie with a passport.
Same lighting rules. Crop to the card. Watch rounded corners and glare.
If the business model is “verify identity,” they wanted the image. This page does not.
Treat the file like the booklet. DMs still leak. Use the channel the policy named.
Crop tightly. Extra desk clutter is how MRZ lines get cut off — or how your address on a letter in the background leaks.
