The tax line on a bill should match the percent the form, the contract, or your accountant already named. You type that percent into this invoice, the total updates in front of you, and the PDF comes from the same preview. The form lives in the browser. Each line is a quantity times a price, and those lines add up to the subtotal. A discount, when you enter one, is a percent of that subtotal. Tax is a percent of the amount left after the discount. The grand total is the after-discount amount plus that tax. If the subtotal is 100, a 10 percent discount is 10, the amount after the discount is 90, and a 20 percent tax on 90 is 18, so the total is 108. Those figures are only an illustration of the arithmetic. The percents that belong on your bill are the ones you were asked to use. The tax field accepts the number you type, from 0 upward, including a decimal such as the rate on your paperwork. The page uses that number. It does not look up a country's VAT rate, GST rate, or sales-tax table. If the rate changed last month, the current figure has to come from you. The discount field works the same way: a percent you supply, applied to the subtotal before tax is calculated. The invoice number starts as INV- followed by the last six digits of the timestamp, and you can replace it with your own series. The date starts as today. Currencies are USD, EUR, GBP, BDT, INR, CAD, and AUD, so the symbol matches the code you pick. Add your business details, the customer, and the lines. When the preview reads the way you want the recipient to read it, download the PDF from that preview. Read the PDF once before you send it. Check the tax percent, the discount, and the total against the numbers you meant. Keep a copy of the file. If a price changes later, edit the form and download again, because the PDF is a snapshot of the preview at that moment.

Tax calculated from the percent you typed

Discount first, then tax

The subtotal is the sum of quantity times price. Discount is a percent of the subtotal, taken off next. Tax is a percent of what remains. The grand total adds that tax back on. Change any line, the discount, or the tax percent, and the preview moves with you. Nothing in the chain is a hidden fee. The numbers on the PDF are the numbers you were looking at.

A rate you already know

Type the percent the paperwork asked for. A zero is available when the supply really is untaxed. A decimal is available when the rate is not a round number. The form will not fetch a national table, a threshold, or a registration check. Bring the rate from the source you trust, then let the invoice do the multiplication.

A PDF of the preview

The download is produced from the preview in the tab. The invoice number begins as INV- plus the last six digits of the time, and the currency is one of USD, EUR, GBP, BDT, INR, CAD, or AUD. Put your own number in if your series is different. Send the PDF you downloaded, and keep it with your other records.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add the lines

Enter each item, its quantity, and its price. The subtotal is the sum of those products, updated as you type.

  2. 2

Enter discount and tax as percents

Discount comes off the subtotal. Tax is calculated on the amount after that discount, using the percent you typed.

  3. 3

    Download the PDF

When the preview matches the bill you want to send, save the PDF from that preview and read it once more.

Use cases

A freelance bill with a known rate

Type the percent your registration requires, choose USD, EUR, GBP, or another listed currency, and send the PDF.

A discounted job that is still taxed

The discount reduces the subtotal first, and the tax percent applies to what is left, so the total stays explainable.

A zero-tax supply

Leave tax at 0 when that is the correct treatment, and the preview will show a total without a tax addition.

Problems we solve

A total that surprised you

Check which percent is the discount and which is the tax. Tax sees the after-discount amount, so the order changes the figure.

An invoice number you do not want

The starter value is INV- and six digits from the time. Replace it with the next number in your own series before you download.

A rate copied from memory

The form will multiply whatever you type. Confirm the current percent on the paperwork before the PDF goes out.

Trust & technology

The arithmetic is visible

Subtotal, discount, tax, and grand total update in the preview from the fields you filled, in the browser.

You keep the PDF

Download it, read it, and store it. A later edit needs a fresh download if the numbers change.
