How the Always Has Been format actually works
Always Has Been is a two-astronaut comic: one traveler realizes a grim fact about Earth while the other holds a gun and replies that the situation always has been that way. The 2020 panel exploded on Twitter as a way to reveal that a complaint was the default state all along. Dialogue, not labels, powers the format. Two boxes exist because the joke is a call and a cold confirmation, not a ranking of objects. Write the naive discovery first and the armed astronaut's reply second, keeping the punchline close to 'always has been' or a close cousin. The first line should sound like someone just noticed a problem; the second should sound unsurprised and slightly threatening. Space suits already supply the setting, so skip extra scene-setting. The gun is the tone: this is not a gentle 'I told you so,' it is a hostage reveal.
