Vertical video stills, not YouTube landscape
9:16 vs 16:9
1080×1920 is a 1080-wide, 1920-tall portrait. 1920×1080 is the opposite. Mixing them is the usual “my Story has black bars” bug. Use this page for Instagram Stories, Reels cover frames, WhatsApp status, and TikTok stills. Use 1920×1080 for YouTube landscape.
Safe zones
Instagram draws username, stickers, and reply fields over the top and bottom. Keep faces and logos in the center 60% of height. This resizer does not burn a safe-zone overlay into the file — leave margin in the original composition.
Covers vs in-feed video
A Reels cover can be a still at 1080×1920. The video file itself is a different encode (MP4). Do not expect this JPG to become a Reel. Export the still, then attach it as cover in the Instagram app.
File size on cellular
A 1080×1920 PNG of a photo is huge. Prefer JPG, then compress if Stories upload fails. Pixel size is already correct; extra compress passes after Maximum quality look muddy.
