Link-preview geometry, not a feed post
What Open Graph actually shows
When someone pastes your URL in Facebook, LinkedIn, iMessage, or Slack, crawlers look for og:image. Many CMSs still recommend 1200×628 (ratio ~1.91:1). A 1080×1080 square will be cropped into a wide bar and may lose the product. Design the subject in the center third so UI overlays do not cover it.
Facebook vs LinkedIn vs Twitter/X
Facebook link ads and organic shares historically used 1200×628. LinkedIn article and company-update cards are also wide. X/Twitter headers are a different job (1500×500 on this site). Do not reuse a Twitter header as an og:image — it is too short and will letterbox.
Text on the card
Keep headlines out of the bottom 20% — some clients overlay the domain. High-contrast type, few words. This resizer does not add text; compose in your design tool, then lock 1200×628 here so the CMS does not resample to a random width.
File weight after pixels are right
Crawlers sometimes refuse huge PNGs. Export JPG at 1200×628, then compress once if the og:image is over ~1MB. Recrawling Facebook’s debugger is a separate step after you upload the file to your site.
