How the This Is Fine format actually works
This Is Fine is KC Green's dog sitting in a room on fire, calmly drinking coffee while saying the situation is fine. The 2013 comic became the default denial format for outages, elections, and group chats. Two boxes usually rest on the dog's line and the unnamed disaster, or top and bottom Impact over the flames. Unlike Disaster Girl, the character is not enjoying the fire. He is lying to himself. Let the dog voice a soothing falsehood and let the fire stand in for the actual problem, named in the other caption if needed. The humor is cognitive dissonance: polite coping while the wallpaper peels. Keep the reassurance short, even corporate ('we are monitoring the situation').
